open eyes, ready ears, and eager lips to sing His praise!

At the beach there are constant reminders of God’s greatness.  From his attention to minute details to his ability to organize the whole macrocosm, I stand in awe of God’s glory and power.  He colors the grains of sand and yet He also designed the whole system of waves, the tides, the movement of the sun, etc. to all work together.

God is the Creator of both the crashing waves and also the barnacles.  He is so worthy that even the rocks would cry out in praise to Him (Luke 19:40).

So often we praise God for His love for us, and while that is good and true, what about the other, awesome traits of God?  What about his justice?  What about his wrath?  What about his power?  What about his wisdom?  What about his stature outside of space and time?

If you would like to read even more about his awesomeness revealed through creation, please read Job 38-39.  Actually I highly recommend that all of us read it.  We may seem high and mighty in the midst of our worldly pursuit and ambition, but catching a glimpse of the Almighty God should bring us right back to our knees and compel us to praise our Creator!  After all, from Him alone comes every good and perfect thing. (James 1:17).

Let’s be praying for

open eyes to see his majesty,

ready ears to hear his voice, and

eager lips to sing his praise!

Praying your day is filled with SONshine,

Happy Engagement, Happy New Year!

Today I write to you with some very exciting news!  My brother, Brad, proposed to his girlfriend (now fiance) Jessica 🙂  We are so excited for them and for the blessing to be part of their very special day!

It’s been said that a picture is worth a thousand words, so after a quick background story, we can let the pictures speak for themselves…

For many many weeks, Brad has been brainstorming with us about different ideas for proposals.  Yesterday while driving from our grandmother’s house in Mississippi to Jacksonville, FL, Brad announced his plan: to propose to Jess after watching the sunrise on the beach.  We brainstormed and worked out all of the details… Brad would surprise Jess by waking her up early and taking her to the beach.  The coffee would already be waiting for her in the car…

Mom, Mrs. Catherine and I were the “reconnaissance team,” and our day began early with a quick run to Starbucks.

Then we were off to the beach!  While Mrs. Catherine and Mom waited in the car (With the car off of course!  We had to be sneaky), I hid behind a palm tree to start my stealthy mission of snapping pictures of the proposal without being seen. 😉  The picture below is of Brad and Jess walking from the car and towards the boardwalk to go down to the beach…

I was right behind them the whole time, and–praise the Good Lord–they never saw me!

When the coast was clear, Mom and Mrs. Catherine even came out to hide out too!

While laying spread out within the thick of the sea oats, I prayed that God would send some birds to have for some pictures.  Guess what happened shortly after…

God provided!

And now….

The big question!

She said “Yes!”

“I will betroth you to me forever.

I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love and in mercy.

I will betroth you to me in faithfulness.

And you shall know the Lord.”

Hosea 2:19-20

Even while here tonight and think back on the wonderful morning that we had, I praise God for it all: the weather, the sunrise, the birds, the peace that He gave to Brad, the “yes” that came from Jess’s lips, the tears, the smiles, the laughter…  Most of though, there is one thing that I am most thankful for, and that is the reminder of God’s patient and perfect love.

Over the past few years, it has been my joy and privilege to watch the way that God has molded and shaped both Brad and Jess.  From friends to fiances, they have grown together in love and care for one another in a relationship that will only grow even deeper as they further pursue marriage.  With this, I pray that the truth of God’s love for them as His very own bride will grow even deeper.  May it be God’s glory alone that is continually revealed as they proceed step-by-step in this exciting, new step closer together in this journey of life!

To Brad and Jess, I love you both so very much and am sooo excited!!! Y’all are precious 🙂

Happy engagement and Happy New Year!

Singing His praise and a taste of spring already!

“Bless the Lord, O my soul!

O Lord my God, you are very great!

You are clothed with splendor and majesty,

covering yourself with light as with a garment,

stretching out the heavens like a tent…

He set the earth on its foundation,

so that it should never be moved…

O Lord, how manifold are your works!

In wisdom have you made them all;

the earth is full of your creatures.

May the glory of the Lord endure forever;

May the Lord rejoice in his works,

who looks on the earth and it trembles,

who touches the mountains and they smoke!

I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;

I will sing praise to my God while I have being.

May my meditation be pleasing to him,

for I rejoice in the Lord.”

Psalm 104:1-2, 5, 24, 31-34

May you hear God’s creation singing His praises this week, and

May you sing as long as you have your being!

Amanda and Tyler’s Wedding

On this past Friday night, December 30th, 2011, we celebrated the beautiful marriage of my dear cousin, Amanda Claire Harden to Tyler Raborn.  What a beautiful ceremony was held in the South Warehouse in Jackson, MS!  The reception, as well, was incredible and was such a fun was to celebrate the evening!  In this post, I have included many pictures from that once-in-a-lifetime evening.  I hope you enjoy them, and please keep the new Mr. and Mrs. Tyler Raborn in your prayers as they start this new life together.

“…as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride,

so shall your God rejoice over you…”

Isaiah 62:5

I love you, dear newlyweds ;).  May God bless you, and I pray that He will reveal the depths of His love even more through this marriage!  May it always remind you–and all of us, for that matter–that God loves and rejoices over His children as His very own bride.  With all of my love,

Sarah 🙂
