Encouragement at the Electric Department

In the hectic rush of this morning, I had to run to the electric department. The teller that helped me had this Bible verse taped to her desk. It was sooo encouraging and just what I needed this morning- a perspective check. It reminded me that, as believers, we rest in the hands of the all-powerful God that has an immeasurable amount of love for His children. Isn’t that incredible, awe-inspiring news?!

Be encouraged today, and never forget that you can make a difference, no matter how small the act. After all, it’s God that takes them and multiplies them!!

“My soul, it yearns for you”

“In the chaos of this life
I long for something more
While lost amidst a troubled sea
I long the safety of the shore

But now that night has fallen
All is calm, if just for now,
And in the stillness of this quiet
I seek your presence more and more

Oh my Heavenly Father,
my soul, it yearns for you
The founder of life and giver of grace,
I find your mercies anew
Bread of Life and Living Water
To you alone I come
Father, you alone are Lord
My soul, it yearns for you

Oh my Heavenly Father,
my soul, it yearns for you
Creator of all and king over men,
Your wisdom is ever true
Source of hope, of power and love
To you alone I come
Find me here in human weakness
My soul, it yearns for you

Father, you alone are God
Jesus, you alone are Savior
Spirit, you alone are my Helper…

My soul, it yearns for you”

Quick updates

There seems to be a reoccurring theme among the majority of my posts here recently: an apology for my tardiness!  This summer has certainly been much busier that I thought it would be, and it doesn’t help much that I RARELY have internet access at my apartment.  Time marches on though, and so must we!  😉

In the past 2 weeks since writing (wow!  Has it really been that long?!), many events have taken place, most notably, a beautiful wedding!  Please check back tomorrow or Tuesday to see some wonderful pictures.

Also since two weeks ago, I have great news to share about Pappaw!  My grandfather (Clovis 🙂 ) is recovering well after his stroke.  Although his left side was greatly affected and now uses a walker, we are thankful for the progress he’s made.  He’s now staying at a place called Brighton Gardens in Brentwood which is very close to my family’s house.  Although we’re not sure how long he will be there, Pappaw has adjusted beautifully, and we look forward to monitoring his recovery as his stay continues.  He LOVES getting mail, so please feel free to email me at hollinger.sarah@yahoo.com to get his mailing address.  Please continue to pray for him and his recovery!

Thanks so much for stopping by, and I can’t wait to write back soon.  I promise that it won’t be two weeks from now either…  I’ve missed writing to y’all too much to let two more weeks go by without writing!

“For though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of  your faith in Christ.”  Colossians 2:5

“…I will be their God!” – The Lord’s provision

“Behold, I will gather them from all the countries to which I drove them in my anger and my wrath and in great indignation.  I will bring them back to this place, and I will make them dwell in safety.

And they shall be my people, and I will be their God.

I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their own good and the good of their children after them.

I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them.  And I will put the fear of me in their hearts, that they may not turn from me.

I will rejoice in doing them good, and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness, with all my heart and all my soul.”

Jeremiah 32:37-41

After reading this passage, I was struck by the promise of His words.  Even though the children of God had been rebellious and rejected Him time and time again, the Lord redeemed His people.  How and why?  He made a provision for them because He loved them.

Think of Abraham’s story.  When God told Abraham to sacrifice his own son, Abraham went willingly and faithfully to follow the Lord’s command.  When Abraham bound his son and raised the knife to kill him, God stopped him.  He provided a ram to sacrifice instead; He made a provision.

So why did God test Abraham in this way?  Why did God make Abraham experience that pain of preparing to kill his own son?

I believe that up there on that mountaintop and while looking down into Isaac’s eyes, bound on the altar to be sacrificed, Abraham had a taste of the pain of having to give up his very own, beloved son.  Yet God in His mercy provided the sacrifice to say, “You see, Abraham, you don’t have to give up your son because I will give up mine.”

Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one has access to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).  Why?  Because when you know and believe in your heart that Jesus paid the debt of your sins, He becomes your covering.  It’s Jesus’ sacrifice and having Him as your Lord that makes you precious in God’s eyes.  You will become one of His children, and He will be your God.  He will keep you in His safety.  And though He will rebuke you, He will discipline you as a father disciplines his children out of compassion and care for his well-being (Hebrews 12:7-11).

Rejoice today in God’s provision–the sacrifice of His son, Jesus Christ–so that we may become His children through faith alone given by grace alone.  The Lord is faithful and just.  With all of His heart and all of His soul, He will rejoice in you as you cling to Him as your loving Father, knowing that in Him, you have everything that you need… and more.

Praise be to God!
