Hello from Passion 2012! As I write these words, I am standing in the Georgia Dome here in Atlanta, GA. What’s even crazier to believe, though, is that I am just one of about 45,000 people that are here attending the conference alone! It’s hard to picture 45,000 people, isn’t it? Even though I am in this room, this sanctuary of an arena, it’s still hard for me to wrap my mind around this number.
Do you know what is even harder to picture than a crowd of 45,000-50,000? 27 MILLION. But this is not just a number, not just a statistic. This is the number of faces scattered across the globe, even in the States, that are in slavery. Whether through sex-trafficking or forced labor at a rice mill, 27 million men, women, and children are living in a desperate state of physical bondage. If you’re anything like me, you were probably clueless that slavery was among the top conflicts across the globe. That’s why I was shocked to hear that there are more slaves NOW in the world than any other time in history.
This is the topic that we are discussing at Passion 2012. As Louie Giglio said himself, that this is not just the latest trend. This is a call for this generation–a generation following Isaiah 26:8– to rise up and to live for the renown of Jesus’ name alone. And this is a way that we can help, that ALL of us can get involved in the spread of the Gospel through this movement for freedom.
Once I finally have access to a computer, I’ll be able to write more about the wonderful speakers–Beth Moore, Francis Chan, etc–and the great music–Hillsong, Chris Tomlin, Christy Nockels, Matt Redman, etc. But for now, I should put up my iPhone and get fully back into this time of worship.
Thanks for reading, and I look forward to writing again soon!
